A request for ed001
I'm a very Rare poster but avid reader of the site and recently due to lockdown was watching back through past world cups and euros and I wonder if you can add to your list of player profiles two of my favourite non Liverpool players who lit up USA 94

Whilst they could both have a nasty streak to them, I found their acceleration over a few yards and vision a joy to watch, hagi in particular I remember was still a handful in his mid 30s
It’s sad to see the decline of the Bulgarian and slightly less so the Romanian national sides since the late 90s - I just rewatched the England v Romania match from euro 2000 and despite big names such as sol Campbell, Beckham, Scholes, Owen, shearer, ince etc they were so far behind that Romania side in terms of technical ability and skill
Romania in particular have some hope due to hagi having set up his academy which you could see some promise in the u21 tournament last year but Bulgaria look like another Hungary now doomed never to get close to former glories.
{Ed001's Note - it is a shame but there is still every chance those nations could recover one day.}

speaking of top Bulgarian players what is your take on Berbatov ed1? Maybe another one to add to your short lists for player profiles. I absolutely loved Berbs when he played for us and He did win us the game vs Liverpool.

{Ed001's Note - I have added him, though not so sure it is a 'short' list! Very good player, very clever, with excellent movement. Could have done more to help the team out defensively, but fantastic quality when on the ball.}

I know the list is ever growing and very long as it is; I was trying to be funny/ sarcastic although text isn't always the best medium to try to do that though.

Berbatov imo was the best at what he did. I still get goosebumps at the Liverpool hat trick, the 5 goals at Blackburn but the best moment of his career for me that unbelievable almost impossible flick against West Ham as the ball was going out of play. Would love to see a player profile on him, other than lack of defensive ability or willingness he was insane. One of the best first touch’s I have ever seen and I’m sure tris will agree on that.
{Ed001's Note - he was a lovely player to watch. Silky I think sums him up. If he had natural fitness to go with it, so he could do the work that some others can do, it would have added to his game. As he didn't have that natural fitness, it would have been detrimental to ask him to chase back etc. There is no such thing as the perfect player, so you are always having to work around their deficiencies to a degree. Berbatov was one of those who had so much ability on the ball it made up for his lack of workrate defensively.}

Silky. Couldn’t have put it better myself. Loved the sky sports interview earlier this year too. Seems a top guy. Don’t think there’s place for that type of striker in football atm but as we all know it changes very regularly so who knows.

You think? The onus these days is for tracking back where possible and there are many strikers these days who do contribute.
{Ed001's Note - not every team plays the same way. Juve don't expect their forwards to track back, for example.}

True but with Juve do they still play 3 with wingbacks? Not seen any of their games this season under Sarri. If so that leaves 3 or 2 out and out attack at best so yeah it would work if you had speed either side of him or a cf behind like Dybala or firmino.
{Ed001's Note - none of the ones I saw had a back 3, Sarriball doesn't use a back 3! Sarri likes at least two of the forwards to stay up and not track back, so they can keep the opposition defence back. As they mainly have the ball, it is not a problem, but it can cause issues when they are under the cosh for a period of time.}
