Just saw that Mandzukic is moving to Juventus for 18 million euros. Any truth in this Eds and does this affect City's transfer plans (I understand they wanted him as a replacement for Dzeko)?

zpecialone

{Ed001's Note - apparently so, they are certainly trying to wrap up a deal. Obviously they are expecting Tevez to leave this summer.}

Hi eds,

Just wondering what happened with Sarri and Napoli. I get that Sarri's made some comments in the past (although it doesn't seem to have been brought up against him in Italy) and the Napoli owner is difficult to work with, but why was Sarri forced out? He made Napoli competitive again playing some attractive football although they did choke at the final stage so it just seemed a bit strange they would push him out and appoint Ancelotti.

{Ed002's Note - They could not agree a new deal and something needed to be done this month.}

1.) 26 May 2018 16:46:40
Ed, what is your view on Sarri - purely from a coaching perspective?

{Ed001's Note - he is a very good coach, plays good football, but he lacks the trophies he needs to win to prove himself as a top level coach.}

2.) 27 May 2018 10:06:28
Cheers Ed, big part of me thinks his appointment would be a good thing for Chelsea, however there is a small part of me that sees this appointment in a similar way to when they appointed Scolari - that didn't go so well.

I believe the Zenit offer remains 'on the table', not buying all the press reports that his move to Chelsea is all but done - they're already getting a lot of their 'facts' wrong.

{Ed001's Note - they are making assumptions as usual.}

Hi ed001,

I saw a few Bundesliga videos recently and was just wondering what your opinion on Miroslav Klose was? His stats for his clubs doesn't look that great (bar his spell at Lazio) but on the international stage, he's record goalscorer for Germany and in the World Cup.

Cheers.

{Ed001's Note - he was excellent at certain things, but was fairly limited in overall terms. However he had good instincts, great in the air in particular and was composed when a chance fell to him. He is one of those good, but not great, players who can be fantastic so long as you play to their strengths and build around that. The minute he is not getting the service he needs, then he becomes anonymous in games.}

Had to ask you, ed001, what do you think of Milan's transfer window so far? With the signing of Bonucci especially, they seem like they're almost ready to challenge Juve for the scudetto.

zpecialone

{Ed001's Note - they have certainly gone for it, though Bonucci, I have been told, comes with a lot of baggage. However, they get their team to gel and they should be pushing Juve. I don't think there is enough there to beat the Old Lady, but Milan have got a very good chance of picking up second. Even if Bonucci has baggage, he is still a top class centre half.}

1.) 15 Jul 2017 18:14:34
Strange Milan has decided to target players with so much baggage. Bonucci and Calhanoglu have signed, and they're also looking at Auba who I understand has so many issues that Dortmund are looking to sell no matter how good he is. Just another question, will they run into financial trouble with so much money spent? Will they be forced to sell like Roma and Inter this summer to balance the books?

Cheers for all the time and hard work 🙂.

{Ed001's Note - no, because the FFP rules are taken over 3 years, so they should be ok this time around.}

2.) 16 Jul 2017 13:43:09
Baggage or not ed1 Bonnuci is a steal for them and just the type of player to partner Romagnoli. Also didn't E. Davids come with baggage, well he was good. I heard/ read that Bonnuci once knocked a guy with a single shot at gunpoint so he seems tough too.

On another note ed1 what do you make of Montella as manager? Also who are Juve looking at to replace Bonnuci.

Thanks and sorry for too many questions.

{Ed001's Note - nobody has any idea about Montella, he is too new. No idea who is replacing Bonnucci sorry.}

3.) 16 Jul 2017 17:38:19
Rugani will replace Bonucci most likely.

4.) 16 Jul 2017 17:45:49
Cheers ed1.

{Ed001's Note - welcome mate.}

5.) 16 Jul 2017 18:29:45
Tbh, Milan's spending spree reminds me of Brendan Rodgers' candy shopping scam. Rodriguez is overrated, Calhanoglu is simply a free kick specialist, less said about Borini the better, Mussachio is injury prone and Kessie is still untested at the highest level.

Andre Silva imo is the only signing that will make a real impact. Milan might just scrape a top3 place, but that's more down to the lack of quality of competing teams (Juve aside) . Too many signings and trying to make them play as a well oiled unit will be Montella's biggest test yet and he may not last the heavy expectations that the football world has placed on his shoulders after what I believe is a random player purchasing spree.

How are they better than Napoli. Napoli has te best attack in the league and by some miles! Roma will miss out from the CL spot!

Hi Ed002,

Any truth in Higuain to Juve? Saw that you said there was no interest around a week ago, but was wondering whether that has changed with reports that Higuain has undergone a medical with Juve.

Cheers.

zpecialone

{Ed002's Note - As I have already explained the push has come from Agnelli after Napoli had a discussion with an English side who made it clear they would not pay the asking price. The deal if it completes includes a sweetener for the future which suits Juventus.}

1.) 23 Jul 2016 19:27:32
What kind of sweetner ed? First refusal on players made available or financial?

{Ed002's Note - It is unimportant but not uncommon in Italy.}

Hi Eds,

Last I heard Roma had FFP issues and as they seem to want to sign quite a few players this transfer window, who do you expect the club to sell?

Thanks.

zpecialone

{Ed002's Note - Skorupski, Viviani, Destro, Pellegrini and Romagnoli.}

Hi Ed002, just a further question, did Totti not join Real because he rejected the move in the end, or because Real decided to sign Beckham over Totti?

zpecialone

{Ed002's Note - I don't remember - it was years ago.}

To be fair, although I've always loved Totti as a player, I felt like he held the team back. It always seemed like he had too much power for a player and that Roma bowed down to his every wish. However, that's just the image that's developed over the years for me, I don't know how true it is.
