Is there any serious interest in Griezmann?

talented player on his day though I imagine it'll be tough for Barcelona to recoup what they paid for him. Assuming they actually want to sell.

eamonsf

{Ed002's Note - Antoine Griezmann (F) the player wants the move to England or Inter Miami - age works, money may not - so the plan was to wait a year or two. However, Griezmann is a player available to moved on for either sale or trade and PSG or just possibly Inter may provide viable options - but if used in a trade as the €100M asking price is very steep. Barcelona are willing to use Griezmann in an exchange and Inter Milan were approached about using him as part of the deal for Martinez - but Inter cannot afford his wages without the endorsements. PSG see him as a potential Mbappe replacement who could be included in a Neymar deal but Barcelona have very much cooled their interest as they are looking to rebuild. But PSG continue to crave another high-profile Frenchman.}

Cheers Ed002, Appreciate the insight.

Looks like this will be pushed back till next summer unless something drastic changes (same goes for most high profile potential transfers) .

{Ed002's Note - Maybe.}

Ed002, with PSG craving another high end Frenchman would they hold any interest in Pogba?

{Ed002's Note - No they are not looking to Pogba.}

Odegaard has started this season incredibly well, will be interesting to see what happens this summer if he keeps it up.

Hi Ed001, were you at all surprised Atletico Madrid got Joao Felix? They're one of the top clubs in world football but Barcelona and Real seem to traditionally beat them to the punch.

Or was it simply a case of them being more willing to put the money forwards and gamble on the development.

eamonsf

{Ed001's Note - it was similar to the signing of Aguero, they were willing to take a chance when no one else was. It was more because Barca decided to go for the finished product in Griezmann and so give them the funds to commit to Felix. Big mistake by Barca as Felix looks almost as good as Griezmann already and will soon be better imo.}

Cheers Ed001, Atletico certainly know how to develop a striker. The Barcelona scouting team has been a mess in recent years, no idea what's going on over there.

{Ed001's Note - they seem to have completely lost the plot. Though it must be said they have not really bought well since the Cruyff days, their sides were built mainly around players coming through the academy. Maybe they have always had a crap recruitment policy masked by the academy boys?}

While it's in part down to last night's humiliation, their performance throughout last season is testament to it, what on earth has happened to Real Madrid?

If anything, it adds to Ronaldo's legacy in terms of how he covered the cracks. It's almost as if some players are regressing? For some of the older players like Modric that makes sense, but I'm confused by the younger ones. Maybe they were just overrated to begin with.

Joao Felix was a lot of fun last night, hope he continues in the same manner throughout the season. Seems the ideal partner for Costa or Morata (potentially both if he drops deeper?). A goal threat himself with fantastic vision and passing ability.

I've heard Diego Costa may be on the move. Are there any sides interested?

eamonsf

{Ed002's Note - Nothing firm at this time but a consultant to the Everton owner has suggested him, there was a discussion with an Italian side that went nowhere.}

1.) 20 Jul 2019 23:00:36
Cheers Ed002, appreciate it. Was the Italian side Roma?

{Ed002's Note - No, not Roma. Roma have a clear second choice after losing out on their first choice and Costa would be someway down any list.}

As a Liverpool fan that was a tough watch, decided to go back and watch the Barcelona game afterwards as a distraction.

Vintage Hummels performance, he's been really good this season. Looked past it at Bayern, but he may well have more left in the tank. My god does Suarez look slow these days, surprised they didn't move him along this summer.

Hey Ed001, I've just seen Ribery has moved to Fiorentina. I know it's a slower paced league and that he still showed flashes of quality last season, but at 36 how do you think he'll manage?

Surprised its Robben who retired over him. Which speaking of, Robben recently came out and said Pep was the best coach he played under. I hadn't thought Pep was that popular with the Bayern players.

eamonsf

{Ed001's Note - Ribery has never impressed me, I have never been a fan at all. He is injury prone, a complete bell and not all that good a player either. He only shows flashes at any point in his career. However they don't mind that in Italy so he will be fine and carry on being as ridiculously overrated as he always has been.

Robben is one player mate, a lot of the Bayern players were not happy with him but some loved him.}

Cheers for the quick reply Ed001. From what I read he enjoyed the intensity and the idea that at 30 there were ways to improve, whereas that intensity just seems to drain others.

{Ed001's Note - a lot of players dislike being constantly rotated as well, they just want to play. Whereas Robben can't play every game and needs to be rotated in and out to avoid injury.}

How do you think Zidane will fair this year? It was difficult to tell how good he was in his first stint at Madrid. Hazard will help but that team was a mess last year and it feels as though he isn't enough. The midfield in particular seemed poor and no one has been brought in.

Hey Ed001, just wondering what you thought of Hidetoshi Nakata as a player? I grew up in South East Asia and me and a childhood friend were recently discussing how big a story his retirement was. Neither of us watched Serie A so it was difficult to know how good he actually was.

eamonsf

{Ed001's Note - he was excellent but his main value was commercial. When he signed for Roma they released a commemorative polo shirt and the sales of the alone made more than his transfer fee had cost them. The man was gold in that area.}

Ed001's what are your thoughts on Nainggolan at CAM? He's hit form recently (shocked as I thought he was on the decline based on his lifestyle and performances) .

I've always considered him an all action midfielder who might be able to rival Vidal if not for his lifestyle, but Spalletti seems to prefer him as a 10.

eamonsf

{Ed001's Note - he did play there for a while at Roma and looked really good there but the manager was changed and he was pushed back again. It is the position he seems best suited for, it allows him to put himself about, without leaving a gap where he should be and makes use of his shooting, which is excellent.

By the way, Vidal has a similar lifestyle!}

1.) 19 Mar 2019 18:53:27
Cheers for the reply Ed001, knew Vidal was loose in the off season but no idea that was his regular lifestyle, might be a contributing factor to his injures. What is it with tenacious players and crap lifestyles haha.

{Ed001's Note - I think it is very much the reason for his injuries to be honest.}

Wow is his potential really up there with Mbappe? didn't think they were in the same league. Will be a fun watch, god knows Atletico know how to develop a striker.

eamonsf

{Ed001's Note - potential yes, though right now he is not as good. Different kind of player so his development will take a bit longer but he should be something special, all being well.}

He hasn't adapted well to Ronaldo's presence, was clear last season. Juventus may see now as the ideal opportunity to cash in while they move forwards. That said I agree with you Eric79, while proven in Serie A, Icardi is more of a fox in the box than anything else. Not sure how he fits in. Maybe if they can get him at a decent price.

I'm really curious to see Juventus post Ronaldo, can't quite figure their plans out. The Lukaku rumours are strange (Though I think he would do well in Serie A) .
